At Adelphi, you can discover the wonders of life while preparing to shape the future of science and healthcare through our biology programs.

Advance your understanding of life through hands-on research, faculty mentorship and courses that prepare you for careers in science and healthcare.

As a biology student at Adelphi University, you’ll explore the living world in the study of biology, biochemistry or neuroscience. Guided by faculty mentors, you’ll receive an education in scientific inquiry and build the laboratory skills that lead to discovery.

It’s an education that will open your way to your choice of careers, from medicine and dentistry to veterinary medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, food science, conservation, public health, and education.

Our biology programs prepare students to:

  • Understand patterns in nature related to human health, agriculture and environmental sustainability.
  • Engage in faculty-led research on campus, with opportunities to present at conferences and publish in scientific journals.
  • Pursue careers and advanced studies in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, research and environmental science.

I chose Adelphi because the curriculum and training for their master’s program is very intuitive and comprehensive. It’s structured for me to be able to pursue the research that I want to.

The Art of Microbiology

Nina Tchavtchanidze, a biology major, combined scientific research with creative expression by cultivating bacteria to create visual artworks. She showcased her project at the University’s annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference, demonstrating how biology and art can intersect to inspire innovative learning and discovery.

Student Life and Hands-On Learning

Gain valuable experience inside and outside the classroom that will deepen your understanding of biology and help make you career-ready by the time you graduate.

Internship Opportunities

We actively support our students in building professional networks with alumni, industry connections, and research collaborators. Biology students have applied their on-campus research knowledge to real-life work settings through partnerships with institutions throughout the New York metropolitan area, including Brookhaven National Laboratory, Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and NYU Langone Health.

Study Tropical Ecology and Conservation Biology in Australia

Dive into some of the world’s most ecologically diverse environments. Guided by Adelphi biology faculty, this summer course gives students hands-on experience studying tropical rainforests and coral reefs, investigating species interactions, ecosystem dynamics and strategies for conserving biodiversity.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Deepen your love of science through Adelphi’s vibrant biology-related student organizations. You can connect with peers, attend guest lectures, participate in field trips and explore career opportunities in the sciences. These clubs foster collaboration, leadership and a supportive community for students passionate about biology and the environment.

Graduate Assistantships

Students in the MS Biology program may be selected for teaching assistantships that include tuition remission and a stipend, with opportunities to assist in courses such as microbiology, anatomy and physiology, cell culture techniques and more, while gaining valuable teaching and laboratory experience.

Research for Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Research is at the heart of your biology education. Our faculty includes ecologists, marine biologists, botanists, microbiologists, virologists, immunologists, geneticists, neuroscientists, endocrinologists and physiologists. All have active research programs and involve students, even as early as their first year, in their respective laboratories.

As a student researcher, you may:

  • Explore environmental pollutants and their connection to human health
  • Investigate genetics, neuroscience, microbiology, and immunology in faculty laboratories
  • Contribute to research on ecosystems and biodiversity conservation
  • Learn advanced laboratory skills in physiology and biotechnology

You will have opportunities to present your work at our annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference and professional scientific meetings, helping you build confidence, technical skills, and your professional network.

Through the SPARK Center (Scholars Pursuing Arts, Research and Knowledge), Adelphi undergraduate students can find funding and mentorship to turn innovative scientific ideas into impactful research projects.
