Mathematics and Computer Science Department

Mathematics and Computer Science Department

Expand your understanding of mathematics, statistics and computer science through collaborative research, experiential learning and interdisciplinary approaches.

Discover your future in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data science, software engineering, information systems or teaching in these fields through Adelphi’s math and computer science degree programs.

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science emphasizes exceptional student support and extraordinary opportunities for research. You will be part of a vibrant and welcoming community of scholars, learning from professors who are at the leading edge of their fields.

Adelphi stood out to me because of the small class sizes. The fast-track degree programs allowed me to complete my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in four years. If it wasn’t for Adelphi, I never would have mixed my career in math and biology.

A Stellar Internship Opportunity with NASA

Tyler Reid ’25, who earned his BS in Computer Science, credits Adelphi’s supportive community and professors for amazing opportunities and an unforgettable internship.

Research for Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Research in computer science and mathematics is a core part of an Adelphi education. Our faculty are active researchers whose work spans fields such as human-computer interaction, augmented and virtual reality, cybersecurity and data privacy, computer ethics, multimedia and game development, abstract algebra, data-driven analytics and computational methods. Students have opportunities to collaborate with faculty-led research groups beginning in their first year.

As a mathematics or computer science student researcher, you may:

  • Explore state-of-the-art augmented and virtual reality
  • Discover new ways to teach and learn mathematics and computer science
  • Learn how individuals with disabilities or who are neurodivergent can better access computer systems
  • Dive into the world of defensive cybersecurity with a focus on enterprise security threat analysis

You will have the opportunity to present your findings at our annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference, and you can join your fellow students at prominent national academic conferences—building your confidence, your skills and your resume.

Through the SPARK Center (Scholars Pursuing Arts, Research and Knowledge), undergraduate students can find funding, expert mentorships and resources to turn innovative ideas into life-changing research projects.

Student Life and Hands-on Learning

By blending rigorous math and computer science-focused academics with real-world experiences, you will graduate career-ready and prepared to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow.

For-Credit Internship Opportunities

Math and computer science students can claim academic credits when they engage in hands-on learning experiences that bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry practice.

Peer Support Through Student Assistants

Our team of student assistants offers tutoring, guidance and peer mentorship to support you through challenging coursework. Opportunities to become a peer assistant are shared through departmental emails, the Center for Academic Support and Enrichment and via Handshake.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Get involved, build connections and grow your skills through our vibrant math and tech-focused student clubs. Network with peers, participate in coding competitions, attend workshops and explore career opportunities. These clubs foster collaboration, leadership, and innovation, creating a supportive community for students passionate about STEM.

High School Programs

High School students can work directly with Adelphi professors and students using computer science and statistics to research real-world data.
