Three inspiring alumni have joined the Adelphi University Board of Trustees, bringing a wealth of international experience and business success. We are delighted to introduce them.

Adelphi University's 22nd annual President's Gala on Saturday, June 11, raised more than $345,000 for the President's Student Success Scholarship, an endowment that has now surpassed $1 million. This year's event at The Garden City Hotel concluded Adelphi's 125th-anniversary celebrations, honoring the University's legacy and those who support its longevity and mission.

Overseas deployments are a fact of life for many American military families. These life-altering experiences—during which service members must leave home for an average of six to 12 months as part of their service in the armed forces—can bring about wide-ranging emotions and reactions, not only for those being deployed, but also for their families on the home front.

A growing endowment for underrepresented doctoral students.

Career achievement awards for six faculty members—Chris Muran (pictured), Jacques Barber, Kirkland Vaughans, Robert Bornstein, Mark Hilsenroth and Lea Theodore—reflect the Derner School’s impact on psychoanalytic thought.

Jacques Barber, PhD, professor and dean, and J. Christopher Muran, PhD, professor and interim dean while Dr. Barber is on sabbatical, have collaborated on a revised psychodynamic therapy chapter in Bergin and Garfield's Handbook of Psychotherapy and Behavior Change 7th Edition (Wiley 2021), considered “the bible of psychotherapy." It builds on the original chapter published in 2013, for which they also collaborated.

In March 2020, as New York entered lockdown and COVID-19 patients overwhelmed area hospitals, Lea Theodore, PhD, Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology professor and director of the Derner school psychology program, received an email out of the blue.

Ern Knox ‘75 came to Adelphi first as a commuter student from Roosevelt, and later as a resident student, to study psychology. He found a strong community in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, the first Black fraternity on Long Island, as a member of its second pledge class. SharRon McCoy-Knox, an aspiring nurse, commuted from Freeport. SharRon was actively involved in student life and had a role in establishing the first Black sorority at Adelphi, Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Adelphi University has been nominated in nine categories in the annual Bethpage Best of Long Island competition organized by Schneps Media. Online voting continues through December 15 and winners will be announced early in 2022. Individuals may vote once a day.
