This course offers participants an opportunity to consider the needs of children of various developmental stages within school-based settings.
Developing and maintaining a positive working alliance with parents,and school staff members are central to the work of school mental health professionals. In recent years, these practitioners have recognized the need for increased flexibility and relationship-focused work in diverse settings and with students from diverse backgrounds.
Discussions will include how to best support students in defining and achieving their goals. Consideration of systems, diversity and inclusion, as well as engagement with family and school-staff will be explored.

Dr. Natalie Brooks Wilson, a social worker for over 30 years, has worked as therapist, supervisor, and organizational leader within non-profit agencies. In her work as an adjunct professor she is often inspired by students’ creativity and determination. Dr. Brooks Wilson’s research agenda includes identifying opportunities for disrupting microaggressions within human service organizations and building successful academic/community organization partnerships.
