In his song, Isis, Bob Dylan captures the paradox of enduring relationships:
“What drives me to you is what drives me insane.”
(Bob Dylan album Desire, January 1976)

The simplicity of these ten words eloquently sums up the complexity of the relationship dynamics that make couple therapy one of the more challenging forms of treatment. At the Adelphi University Postgraduate Program in Couple Therapy we provide grounding in the theory and practice of couple psychotherapy in a part-time two-year course of study.

The program is based on a synthesis of psychoanalytic and systemic perspectives and offers a strong theoretical and technical foundation that will prepare you to work with a wide range of relationship issues in couple treatment.

This program is designed for masters and doctorate levels mental health professionals in the fields of psychology, social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychiatry, and nurse practitioners in psychiatry, creative art therapists, addiction counselors and psychoanalysts, who are interested in taking the next step in establishing themselves as experts in the field of couple psychotherapy. No prior experience treating couples is required.
