Research for Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Research is at the heart of your Adelphi environmental studies and science education. Our faculty lead active research programs across diverse areas and you can engage in meaningful projects alongside your professors as early as your first year.
As an environmental student researcher, you may:
- Investigate water quality, coastal ecosystems and the impacts of environmental pollutants
- Study biodiversity, marine life and conservation strategies in local and global ecosystems
- Conduct field research through summer programs in Australia and Alaska, as well as at local sites including Long Island’s Oyster Bay and Hempstead Harbor.
- Apply GIS, data analysis and laboratory techniques to address real-world environmental challenges
You will have opportunities to present your work at our annual Scholarship and Creative Works Conference and at professional environmental science meetings, helping you build confidence, technical skills and your professional network.
Through the SPARK Center (Scholars Pursuing Arts, Research and Knowledge), undergraduate students can access funding and mentorship to turn innovative environmental research ideas into impactful projects.

A Campus That Teaches Sustainability
Adelphi’s main campus in Garden City, NY, is a living example of sustainability in practice, offering a powerful complement to academic study and research in environmental science and policy. Internship Opportunities
Environmental Studies and Sciences students at Adelphi build professional networks with alumni, industry partners and research collaborators. They gain hands-on experience through internships across the New York metropolitan area, including the New York Botanical Garden and local conservation programs, applying classroom and field research to real-world environmental projects.
Study Tropical Ecology and Environmental Threats in Australia
Explore some of the world’s most ecologically diverse environments. Guided by Adelphi faculty, this summer course focuses on the conservation of tropical rainforests and coral reefs in the face of the global biodiversity crisis.
