Computer Science Concentrations

Graduate students looking to earn their master’s degree in computer science must choose one of two specializations:

Cybersecurity

Learn how to protect digital assets by studying attacker methods and techniques and mitigation strategies by getting your MS in computer science with a concentration in cybersecurity. This MS concentration stream is offered online and on our Garden City, New York, campus (all core courses and the cybersecurity electives).

Software Engineering

Learn multiple programming languages as you’re instructed in the research, design, development and testing of operating systems-level software in the Master of Science in Computer Science program with a concentration in software engineering. This concentration stream is offered both online and on our Garden City, New York, campus located on Long Island, (all core courses and the software engineering electives).

State-of-the-Art Technology

Whether you are concentrating in cybersecurity or software engineering, all students studying computer science have access to a variety of state-of-the-art tools and equipment. Adelphi’s Cybersecurity Lab in New York allows students to enhance their research skills on information security and protecting data through the use of up-to-the-minute tools.

Students concentrating on software engineering, specifically in game development, have access to innovative equipment—from high-end desktops to multiple virtual reality (VR) headsets such as Oculus Rift, Google Cardboard, HTC Vive and the Microsoft HoloLens.

Application Requirements

Required:

  • Graduate application and $60 fee
  • Official college transcripts
  • Final transcript stating a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • Course-by-course evaluation: All graduate applicants with undergraduate-level work completed outside of the United States will be required to send a course-by-course evaluation of their academic work prepared by a NACES member organization. Adelphi recommends you use The Evaluation Company (TEC) or IEE (discount provided for Adelphi applicants), ECE, or WES, but any NACES member evaluation would be acceptable.

Recommended:

  • Submission of a strong portfolio of completed technical work (academic or professional) is highly recommended and will contribute favorably to an admissions decision.
