During the Spring 2026 semester, Adelphi University was proud to welcome its first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, Bibek Banerjee, PhD, a renowned management scholar and entrepreneurial academic administrator from India.

Adelphi isn’t just a university; it’s a powerful force for change, extending far beyond the Garden City campus. It’s a place where dedicated alumni, armed with their skills and passion, answer the call to give back, actively shaping the health of the communities they serve.

Kenyenica Rigby, nursing major and rising sophomore, is finding ways at Adelphi to make a difference—now and with her future goals.

Mario Baez, who spent 30 years at the United Nations, shared his international experience and his vast knowledge of Latin America with students as the Levermore Global Scholars program's 2025 Spring Fellow.

Shota Mikautadze, a rising senior who came to Adelphi from the Republic of Georgia, is this year’s recipient of a Newman Civic Fellowship. Awarded by Campus Compact, the fellowship is an annual honor and yearlong program for select student leaders from across the country who are committed to making positive change.

“These scholarships are a way to give back because Adelphi’s given me so much,” said the proud Adelphi alumna.

“As soon as I rolled on campus, I immediately felt at home,” recalls Peri Finkelstein ’22, MBA ’23.

Candice Garwood, a student in Adelphi's Levermore Global Scholars program, is this year's recipient of the fellowship from Campus Compact for students working to bring about change. She is the seventh consecutive Adelphi student to win the annual award.

Peri Finkelstein ’22, MBA ’23, continues to take the nonprofit she founded to greater heights while giving back to a program that gave her so much.

Undergrad Nino Burjanadze, a Levermore Global Scholar, has been selected for a semester-long internship with The Washington Center Academic Internship Program in Washington, D.C. She will advocate for better resources for schools located in areas with funding challenges, like Native American reservations and low-income housing communities.

For the first time since the pandemic, high school students gathered at Adelphi to learn how to advocate for their rights and those of people of all races, cultures, religions and genders.

An Adelphi professor changed the course of this brilliant NASA researcher’s life—by connecting her with internships, helping her secure an opportunity with the National Science Foundation and serving as an extraordinarily caring mentor.

In addition to continuing to serve as associate provost for faculty support and global affairs, in 2024, she will lead Levermore Global Scholars, a program that initially drew her to Adelphi because of its unique learning goals.

Four days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Adelphi faculty hosted a teach-in to help students make sense of the conflict.

Jacqueline Olvera, PhD, director of Latin American and Latinx Studies and associate professor of sociology, and students spent an eye-opening summer with the hardworking, entrepreneurial women who sell tamals on street corners.

A distinctive new program for Levermore Global Scholars (LGS) at Adelphi University will send a group of students to India in January 2023 for an intensive, all-expenses-paid, study tour, sponsored by Adelphi alumnus Bharat Bhisé, MBA ‘78.
