Operations, Events and Resources
The University continues to abide by state regulations. On-campus events are not permitted without permission and groups must be in compliance with state-restricted group size. Event organizers are encouraged to use remote technology wherever possible to offer events in a revised, virtual format. For those that cannot be delivered virtually, organizers may determine to cancel or postpone events until a later date, when the state deems it safe to gather. This includes events sponsored by the University, schools, departments, or units, as well as student-sponsored events.
See our events page for the latest on the status — including postponements or cancelations — of campus events.
Due to a ban on gatherings in New York State, and the requirement of our state and county departments of health to maintain social distance and reduce population density during the COVID-19 pandemic, Adelphi University’s traditional Commencement Ceremony for 2020, originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 at Nassau Coliseum was not held as planned. In addition, our traditional Hooding Ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center was not held on that date as planned.
The Adelphi University Commencement Steering Committee considered multiple alternative options including a virtual ceremony, smaller college and school ceremonies, and waiting until an unknown date to host a University-wide ceremony. It was decided unanimously to reschedule Commencement 2020 and to host a full, traditional university-wide ceremony for our 2020 graduates and their families on a future date when our government and public health authorities announce that it is safe to resume large, in-person gatherings and events. It was also been decided that our traditional Doctoral Hooding ceremony would rescheduled for a future date when our government and public health authorities announce that it is safe to resume large, in-person gatherings and events.
We will communicate the new plans and details when they are finalized. For more detailed answers to your frequently asked questions, please visit our commencement website.
Adelphi’s housekeeping staff in the Facilities Management Department continues to utilize hospital-grade cleaning products and protocols.
