Quality Child Care
Adelphi's Alice Brown Early Learning Center provides a wonderful opportunity to parents of children 18 months to 5 years of age. The mission of the Alice Brown Early Learning Center is to offer a high-quality child care program to Adelphi faculty, staff, students, and the surrounding community. The new Alice Brown Early Learning Center facility opened in fall 2008 and is a state-of-the-art complex that fosters the education and socialization of children, in coordination with their parents. The program builds on the strengths and personal interests of each child utilizing best practices in early childhood education.
Complementing the large, bright, well equipped classrooms, the center will have auxiliary space for the children to access, including a large central piazza area to be used for parent meetings and small group activities, an art studio, a parent lounge and student observation booths.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Alice Brown Early Learning Center (ELC) is to offer a high quality experiential learning environment to faculty, employees, students and community families, ensuring an optimal play-based environment is implemented to foster the continued development and learning of all participants.
At the ELC we believe that an optimal environment is one where learning is rooted in play-based, multi-sensory, language rich experiences that foster meaningful and reciprocal relationships.
The ELC seeks to remain on the cutting edge of early care and education best practices. The program is committed to promoting understanding and excellence in early childhood teaching practices; encouraging professional growth in the center's teaching staff, while providing students and faculty of Adelphi University with opportunities to pursue educational studies and research.
Academics & Research
In addition to three classrooms complete with computers and printers in each room, the new center will serve as a learning laboratory for the educational development, practicum, and research needs of the student body and faculty of Adelphi University. The inclusion of academic and research components will ensure the provision of an environment for the growth and development of the children.
