The application process for first-year and transfer art students.

Your art career starts here with your application for admission to Adelphi. The Office of University Admissions encourages you to learn about financial aid and scholarships and complete and submit an application. The art program has additional admissions requirements.

Portfolio Requirements

Undergraduate art students can submit their portfolio by sending digital images representing their recent studio work. This should include the following:

  • Portfolio: 12 to 20 examples of recent work demonstrating various artistic skills and mediums, including but not limited to drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, designs, cartooning, photography.
  • At least three portfolio examples should be drawings observed from life (e.g. still-life, figure, portrait, landscape).
  • A letter of introduction addressed to the department chair explaining your interests and passions in art.
  • The reviewing committee is interested in portfolios that demonstrate a variety of work and art mediums.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to make an appointment to visit our studios, meet the chair, and present the portfolio in person. We also schedule several “portfolio review days” on campus in both the fall and spring semesters. These events provide an excellent opportunity to see the studios, meet faculty and obtain a portfolio review and interview in one-stop. You can also send your work digitally using Slideroom to be considered for a major in art or art and design education.

Your audition will also determine whether you’ll receive one of our several talent scholarships
