At Adelphi, our faculty members encourage learning well beyond the classroom by developing new initiatives that enable students to work closely with them on an individual basis. This month, I’m proud to share the inspiring impact of several of these programs and the faculty members behind their success.
Undergraduate research opportunities are thriving in our SPARK Center, with students exploring important topics alongside faculty this summer. Meredith Whitley, PhD, a professor in the School of Health Sciences, is leading the national conversation on mental health guidelines for youth sports. This year’s Levermore Global Scholars Spring 2025 Fellow, Mario Baez, led students on an immersive study tour through the Dominican Republic. Our federally funded STEM initiative for academically talented, low-income students is gaining national recognition. And Rakesh Gupta, associate professor in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, is creating more study abroad opportunities for students through his new scholarship fund.
We often say that our community is Adelphi’s greatest strength, and these faculty-student collaborations are excellent examples. With the Fall 2025 semester just a few weeks away, I look forward to supporting our faculty in delivering extraordinary opportunities for students, further strengthening our personalized approach to education.
Onwards and upwards,
Chris Storm, PhD
Interim President
The variety and sophistication of paid research projects undertaken by Adelphi students this summer reflects the University's emphasis on undergraduate research.
Professor of health and sport sciences Meredith Whitley, PhD, believes the youth sports system in the United States is broken. She is now leading a project to develop evidence-informed mental health guidelines that have the potential to transform the way youth sports programs are run.
Mario Baez, who spent 30 years at the United Nations, shared his international experience and his vast knowledge of Latin America with students as the Levermore Global Scholars program's 2025 Spring Fellow.
Adelphi’s eighth consecutive winner of an Inspiring Programs in STEM Award provides scholarships, mentoring, internships and career preparation for high-achieving, low-income students from local schools majoring in STEM fields.
Associate Professor Rakesh Gupta, a beloved figure at Adelphi, has long inspired students and colleagues alike. His newly established scholarship will provide vital support, enabling more Adelphi students to gain invaluable global experience through study abroad.
