Getting Started with Financial Aid
Financial aid can open doors to opportunities you might not have thought possible.
How to Apply for Financial Aid
Applying for financial aid doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Whether you’re a new student, a returning student, a military/veteran, or a parent/guardian, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Maintaining Your Financial Aid
Once you’ve received financial aid, it’s important to stay on track to keep your eligibility. Adelphi University and the federal government have specific academic, enrollment, and financial requirements to ensure you continue to qualify for your financial aid.
Receiving my scholarship package allowed me to afford life-changing private higher education, and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to attend Adelphi University.

Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships and grants are a great way to fund your education. Unlike loans, this is money you do not need to repay. Adelphi offers a variety of awards based on merit, talent and financial need.
Institutional Awards
Adelphi University offers many ways to offset the cost of tuition. Explore scholarships and grants offered directly by Adelphi, including merit-based awards for academic excellence, talent-based scholarships for the arts and athletics, and need-based grants to help bridge the financial gap. These awards are designed to recognize your achievements and support your goals.
Restricted and Endowed Awards
Donor-funded scholarships—tailored to specific academic disciplines, extracurricular interests or personal background—are a financial lifesaver for many students. These competitive awards, made possible by generous donors and alumni, vary in amount and qualifications. While not automatically renewable year to year, they offer incredible opportunities to reduce your yearly costs at Adelphi.
Federal and State Grants
Need-based grants are a cornerstone of financial aid. By filing the FAFSA®, you may qualify for federal grants like the Pell Grant or the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). New York State residents can also apply for state-specific grants, such as the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), to further reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.
Award Applications and Terms and Conditions
Some awards require an additional application and additional terms, conditions, and requirements may apply to your scholarship. Stay informed and stay on track.
Student Employment
Gain valuable real-world experience while earning money to help pay for your education. Whether you’re looking for year-round positions, seasonal work, or short-term opportunities, you’ll find roles that fit your schedule and relate directly to your career goals.
Federal Work-Study
This program, based on financial need, provides part-time jobs for eligible students, allowing you to earn money while gaining professional skills.
Campus Employment
Open to all students, these on-campus jobs offer flexible hours and a chance to work in a supportive, university environment.
Loans
Loans can help bridge the gap between financial aid (money you don’t have to repay) and the cost of attendance. One-Stop offers guidance on both federal and private loan options. We’ll help you understand the terms and conditions of your loan, so that you and your family are fully aware of the steps ahead.
Understanding Student Loans
We recommend you learn the differences between federal and private loans. A solid understanding of the next steps, repayment plans, what happens if you can’t pay your loan, and how to resolve federal student loan disputes are critical to your future financial health.
Special Considerations
We understand that every student’s financial situation is unique. If your circumstances have changed or you need additional support, we’re here to help. The One-Stop Services Center can provide students and families with one-to-one sessions to guide you through the financial aid process.
