Dear Adelphi Community,

The Department of Public Safety and Transportation will conduct regularly scheduled testing and maintenance of Adelphi’s fire life safety systems (standpipes and sprinklers) on our Garden City campus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 12, 13 and 14.

This testing is required by New York State and should have little or no impact on your day. During tests, you may hear an alarm for a few seconds, but evacuation is unnecessary. In a true emergency, the alarms ring continuously, and we directly communicate the need to evacuate.

Additional Testing Notice:

During this time (August 12 through the 14), a five-year standpipe test will be conducted in collaboration with the Nassau County Fire Marshal in Klapper Hall and Residence Halls A and B. Each location may be tested 3 to 4 times for approximately 20 minutes each.

Following testing, there may be a slight discoloration of the water in some campus buildings. This temporary condition is easily solved by running the water for a minute or two.

Thank you for your understanding and support of our community’s continued safety and wellbeing.
