Adelphi University James F. Bender Clinical Professor of Finance Robert S. Goldberg has been recognized by Poets&Quants as one of the 50 best undergraduate business professors.
Selected by the Poets&Quants editorial team from more than 1,200 nominations from students, alumni, colleagues and administrators worldwide, Goldberg’s dedication to teaching and impactful research helped earn him this prestigious honor.
Since joining the Adelphi University Robert B. Willumstad School of Business in 2004, Goldberg has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in personal finance, derivatives and corporate finance. He oversees the University’s Student Investment Fund, guiding students to manage a portfolio of holdings that are part of the University’s endowment. Goldberg’s research focuses on financial markets and economics, with notable scholarly research publications including “A National Balance Sheet Approach to the Natural Rate of Interest,” “The Critical Role of the Magnitude and the Sign of the Interest Rate Term Premium in Optimal Asset Allocation” and “A New Measure of Monetary Accommodation.”
“Professor Goldberg cares deeply about his students’ learning and success while they are at Adelphi and as they progress through their careers,” said MaryAnne M. Hyland, PhD, dean of the School of Business. “This recognition could not be more well deserved.”
A Professor with Experience in Banking, Investments and Finance
Beyond academia, Goldberg spent more than 20 years in investment banking and capital markets at positions including head of investment-grade debt origination at Merrill and head of corporate finance at Barclays. He co-founded the debt business for Hambrecht Capital and pioneered the use of internet auctions for bond issuance. Goldberg continues to consult in corporate finance and asset management and frequently shares his expertise on finance and economics in national publications. He also regularly shares his expertise with the media on topics in finance and economics, including op-eds in internationally recognized outlets.
Noting the rewarding nature of his work in both banking and academia, Goldberg emphasized the importance of sharing his knowledge with students, maintaining connections with alumni, and having the support and love of his family. “I am grateful to have my wife as my partner for nearly 50 years, and that we have a wonderful family of children and grandchildren,” he said.
