About the Course
This summer workshop brings together creativity and practicality. You’ll explore writing as both art and skill—learning to express yourself, communicate clearly, and adapt your voice for college and career success.
Through reading, discussion, and guided workshops, you’ll craft original pieces across genres, from creative stories to personal essays, and complete a polished college essay draft ready for submission.
Graduates of English and Creative Writing programs often pursue fulfilling careers in teaching, law, publishing, marketing, journalism, communications, editing, social media, and more. This course gives you an early foundation in those professional writing skills while helping you build confidence in your unique voice.

Meet Your Professor
Laura La Vacca is a Senior Adjunct Instructor of English at Adelphi University. She holds a BA in Creative Writing & Secondary Education and an MA in American Literature, both from Hofstra University. She also works at various other campuses on Long island, including Nassau Community College and Hofstra University where she teaches creative and professional writing courses.
