Auditions for Dance Majors
Take your first steps with an application for admission and a dance audition.
We are accepting in-person auditions for COVID-19 vaccinated individuals starting this November!
Dancers will visit the campus and take classes (ballet and modern) with our students as the technique portion of the audition. After classes, applicants show their two-minute solo. Experience a typical day of technique classes, with a chance to speak to students and faculty with additional questions about life as a dancer at Adelphi.
Contact Beverly Fox firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your audition or register for an audition time slot. Audition days are limited to Mondays, Wednesdays, and some Fridays. No auditions on Thursdays.
We are still able to take video auditions. To submit, prepare a link via Google Drive or a private link to a posted video on Youtube or Vimeo. Email the link to Beverly Fox at email@example.com and Orion Duckstein at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The video should contain:
- A full ballet barre, one time through each exercise
- Ballet center: Adagio, Tendu/pirouette, Waltz, Petit & Grand Allegro
- If possible a modern or contemporary combination, preferably across the floor, and
- Your two-minute solo showing performance quality and how you use techniques in performance.
Audition and Admission Process
Your admission to our highly selective dance program is by audition. You will be required to:
- Take a 90-minute ballet class
- Take a 90-minute modern dance class
- Perform a two- to three-minute solo to the music of your choice
Your audition will also determine whether you’ll receive one of our several talent scholarships. All auditions are by appointment only.
The audition process for a dance major or minor involves participating in a ballet and modern technique class with our current dance students, Monday through Friday. Our faculty members periodically hold off-campus recruitment auditions as well.
You can submit your audition digitally using Slideroom to be considered for a major in Dance.

The Dance Department has four state-of-the-art dance studios, along with dedicated lockers and dressing facilities. It comes equipped with a full complement of theatrical lighting and audio equipment.
Although this depends on the size of both the studio and the number of students, there are no more than 18 per technique class and sometimes as few as four.
