Graduation Requirements
Conferral of Degrees
Degrees are awarded on January 31, May 31, August 31, and December 31 of each year. While there’s only one commencement ceremony held in May, students can participate if they:
- Graduated in the previous August, December, or January.
- Are completing their degree requirements in May.
- Are within 12 credits of finishing and will complete them by August of that year.
Applying for Graduation
Graduation is not automatic! To graduate, students must:
- Complete the online graduation application or submit a downloadable application form.
- Submit the application by the deadline listed in the Academic Calendar to ensure their name appears in the commencement booklet.
Degrees will not be awarded to students who fail to apply for graduation. Late applications will be processed for the next graduation date.
Graduation Requirements
Students must meet both general degree requirements as outlined in the University Bulletin and program-specific requirements listed under their school/college and department.
Matriculated students typically follow the requirements from the University Bulletin in effect when they are admitted. However, students who take a break for two or more consecutive fall/spring semesters will follow the Bulletin in effect when they return to Adelphi University.
Receiving Diplomas
Diplomas are mailed to graduates 8-10 weeks after the official degree conferral date. Diplomas will not be issued to students with outstanding obligations to Adelphi University.
The diploma includes the name of the school/college, the degree awarded, and any Latin honors earned. While majors, minors, concentrations, and specializations are not listed on the diploma, this information is reflected on the official transcript. If your diploma is lost or damaged, you can request a replacement by submitting a Diploma Replacement Form.
