Adelphi University campus in the snow

Dear Adelphi Community,

With winter approaching, Adelphi’s Department of Public Safety and Transportation is planning for the possibility of weather that could impact travel. The same protocols used to determine the closure of our Garden City campus are used to determine closures at Adelphi Learning Centers, if they are impacted by winter weather. When a snow day is declared, we will close University operations, including all instruction (both virtual and in-person) and support services, for the day. Essential staff from departments such as Public Safety and Facilities will assist with snow removal and maintain our infrastructure. Students, faculty and most staff will have a snow day.

When deciding whether to close Adelphi’s Garden City campus and its Centers, the University closely monitors the weather and forecasts and works with local and state emergency services, including the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management. We also work in concert with other Long Island schools and universities.

In making these difficult decisions, the safety of the entire Adelphi community is our highest priority. We also understand the importance of notifying the community as early as possible and making every attempt to announce a closing by 5:00 am—before most people begin commuting. Occasionally, changing weather conditions will force us to make a decision after 6:00 am. At all times, safety is our first concern. Most importantly, please drive carefully and allow yourself plenty of time to get to your destination.

How We Alert You

In the event of a winter weather school closing, Public Safety will alert you through RAVE — the Adelphi University Mass Notification System. The information will also be available on radio, television, the Adelphi University website, and via Adelphi’s weather advisory phone numbers.

The weather advisory phone numbers and instructions for accessing RAVE alerts are below and printed on the back of your Adelphi University identification card.  Please note that if you change your mobile phone number or service provider, you must update your information in RAVE via eCampus.
