Free children’s program with Adelphi University’s music department.

Adelphi University Professor Georgia A. Newlin and her students invite you to take part in a family-friendly program, A Musical Morning with Kathy Kuddes. The event is Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Recital Hall in the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC) located at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. Admission is free for children under the age of 18; accompanying adults are $10.00 per person.

Children attending the Saturday morning show will receive a percussive instrument to play along with the show and to take home as a souvenir.

An interactive music experience for children

Ms. Kuddes will be a guest Artist-in-Residence, spending a week with the music education students and Assistant Professor Newlin leading up to this program. She will discuss with Adelphi students the vision and philosophy of Zoltán Kodály to introduce young learners to music. Kodály is a way to engage school students in music literacy by singing and playing the music of their geographic region based on local cultures. Immersing children in familiar musical sounds, folksongs, traditional songs, and children’s singing games forms the foundation of musical literacy.

Kathy Kuddes is currently the Director of Fine Arts for the Plano Independent School District, Coordinator of the Plano Kodály Training Program, and lead instructor for its partner program at the Meadows School of Fine Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

Adelphi University’s Performing Arts Center is Long Island’s premier cultural arts venue for entertainment of all kinds.
