Robert Willumstad visit with the Business School in Fall 2022

This semester, the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business announces promotions and work anniversaries, welcomes new faculty members and thanks faculty and staff leaving the School for their efforts and dedication.

Promotions

  • Ganesh Pandit, DBA, has been promoted to the rank of professor of accounting.
  • Winston Waters, MBA, JD, has been promoted to the rank of professor of business law.
  • Jason Na, PhD, and Eunji Lim, PhD, have been awarded tenure with promotion to the rank of associate professor of finance and economics and associate professor of decision sciences, respectively.

New Faculty and Staff Members

  • Yue Han, PhD, associate professor of decision sciences, joins us from LeMoyne College and brings expertise in business analytics.
  • Toni Marano, administrative assistant, joins us from the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards here at Adelphi.

In Memoriam

It is with sadness that we share that Jeffrey Goldstein, PhD, passed away. Dr. Goldstein was a professor of management in the business school from 1989 to 2020.

Willumstad’s Annual Bender Research Awards

These awards honor outstanding published work by the School’s faculty. This year, the Outstanding Body of Work Award, given to a faculty member for their contributions to scholarship over the previous three years, went to Eunji Lim, PhD, associate professor of decision sciences, in recognition of her sustained record of high-quality publications during 2020, 2021 and 2022. The 2023 Bender Best Paper Awards were given to five Willumstad faculty members:

Faculty Scholarly Activity

  • Raghida Abdallah Yassine, PhD, assistant professor of management, received the 2023 AOM Management Consulting Division Best Paper Award.
  • C. Richard Baker, PhD, professor of accounting and law, co-authored an article entitled “Paternalism as a long-term strategy of a management control system” in the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, which has been ranked as the second-most highly ranked journal in the accounting discipline.
  • C. Richard Baker, PhD, professor of accounting and law, and Ganesh Pandit, DBA, professor of accounting and law, were selected as the recipients of the Accounting Historians Journal’s 2021 Best Paper Award for their research article, Historical Development of the Standard Audit Report in the U.S.: Form, Scope, and Renewed Attention to Fraud Detection.”
  • Stephanie Berger, MBA ‘89, adjunct professor of marketing, participated as a panelist at the 2022 Church Benefits Association annual meeting on November 30, 2022, on the following topic: “Wayfinding a New Normal: The Great Resignation and Employee/Participant Wellness and Financial Security.”
  • Pamela Buckle, PhD, MA ‘13, professor of management, has completed all qualifying exams and is now a licensed psychoanalyst in the New York state.
  • Murat Erogul, PhD, associate professor of marketing, co-authored an article, “Female Soldiers Maneuvering Visibility in the Turkish Armed Forces,” which was published in Culture and Organization.
  • James Hazy, EdD, professor of management, was a guest speaker at the Cluj Economics and Business Seminar Series at Universitatea Babeș-Bolyai, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, on December 15, 2022. His seminar was titled “The New Discipline of Work Team Process Engineering.” Separately, Dr. Hazy was also selected for Life Membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
  • Adjunct faculty member Oluwasheyi Oladipo, PhD’s article, “Female entrepreneurs managing from home,” has been published in Small Business Economics.
  • An article by Mariano Torras, PhD, professor and chair of finance and economics, and Robert Goldberg, James F. Bender Clinical Professor of Finance, “A National Balance Sheet Approach to the Natural Rate of Interest,” has been published in The Journal of Fixed Income.
  • A letter by Mariano Torras, PhD, professor and chair of finance and economics, titled “T-bills are shaky edifice of a make-believe economy,” was published in the January 27 issue of the Financial Times.
  • Karen Wallace, assistant professor of accounting and law, was featured in Fortune for providing insights on preparing for tax season.
  • Winston Spencer Waters, JD, MBA ‘15, professor of accounting and law, authored a research article titled “The Use of Trusts for Medicaid Planning,” which was published in the Business Law Review, the official publication of the North Atlantic Regional Business Law Association.
  • Monica Yang, PhD, professor and chair of management, received a certificate for the most downloaded article from January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2021, in the Thunderbird International Business Review for her article “The post-acquisition performance of cross-border mergers and acquisitions conducted by Chinese firms in the high-tech industries: Profitable or innovative?”
  • Professor Jiang Zhang, PhD’s co-authored paper, “Call option contract in a supply chain with random yield and random demand using downconversion approach,” was published in the Journal of Modelling in Management in January.
