Malicious software containing ransomware (aka kryptoware) recently reached Adelphi’s network.

It systematically goes through folders and files on all drives of a PC including mapped drives and encrypts the files so they can no longer be read. Your file extensions may appear in the following format: .vvv

This type of malware seeks to force its victims to pay the ransom through certain online payment methods.

If you find yourself a victim of this attack, please contact the IT Help Desk at 516.877.3340 immediately for further instructions. Do not engage the attackers by contacting them, or by following instructions left behind.

Any files on your (C:) drive will be irrevocably lost if this malware reaches you.

Faculty and Staff: Back up your important data that is on your (C:) drive onto your (H:) drive, your (I:) drive or to Google Drive using the web client. The IT department only backs up files on your network drives.
Students: Back up your important data to Google Drive using the web client.
