Announcing new scholarship opportunities available to students in 2014-15.

We are thrilled to announce that the Robert G. Hartmann Scholarship for Excellence in Spanish will be available to students beginning in Academic Year 2014-2015. Students must be Spanish majors who have completed 30 credits in the major, have demonstrated significant financial need, and have at least a 2.7 GPA.

We are extremely grateful to Mr. Hartmann, who was honored at our awards ceremony this past April (see p. 3: “Language Students Win Entry into National Honor Societies, Awards”)

Secondly, we wish to share the good news with you that the endowments of the Foreign Language Writing Contest and the Prottas Entrepreneurship endowment will be merged to create the new Melvin and Marian Prottas Foreign Language Writing Award.

This award will be open to majors and minors in French, Italian or Spanish. Sincere thanks to Prof. Dave Prottas from the School of Business for creating this fantastic opportunity.

We are also extremely pleased to announce a third new scholarship opportunity, The Smalley Family Endowment for Italian Language Studies, created by Trustee Patrick Smalley in honor of his family’s heritage. This endowment provides scholarships to students minoring in Italian. Eligible undergraduate students (3.0 minimum GPA) who wish to study abroad in Italy may apply the scholarship funds to fees related to their study abroad experience.
