Dear Adelphi Community,

Marsha J. Tyson Darling, PhD

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Marsha J. Tyson Darling, PhD, to the position of special assistant to the president for strategic initiatives. Dr. Darling’s appointment will be effective September 1, 2021.

Dr. Darling has been a dynamic member of the Adelphi community as a leader, scholar, program manager, professor and mentor for the past 21 years, and is uniquely qualified to drive forward initiatives that advance the goals, mission and vision of our University.

In this role, Dr. Darling will partner with the University’s senior leadership to support the development and implementation of University-wide strategic initiatives, which will be vital as we transition from our Momentum strategic plan into Momentum 2. Dr. Darling will assist executive leadership’s work providing essential oversight of the new strategic plan, ensuring effectiveness and timely completion of planned objectives while charting established milestones and measurement criteria.

As an experienced campus leader, Dr. Darling will work closely with Adelphi’s departments and constituencies to set a course that values and incorporates each of their visions within the broader scope of the University’s strategic goals. Dr. Darling’s engagement with the stakeholder interests of various segments of our Adelphi community will ensure seamless coordination of new initiatives and overall programmatic objectives across five key goals, spanning:

  • Academic Growth and Quality
  • Student Success, Retention and Graduation
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
  • Streamlined Operations and Financial Strength
  • Reputation and Community Engagement

I am confident that Dr. Darling’s vast experience at Adelphi and beyond will bring a valuable, critical perspective to the University’s direction in the months and years to come. I look forward to seeing her add engagement, enthusiasm, new energy and purpose to Adelphi’s mission and vision.

All the best,
