Check out the technology projects we worked on over the summer.

Welcome to the start of a new semester at Adelphi University. The Office of Information Technology is continually working with other campus departments to enhance technology services for the Adelphi community. As we work on more projects throughout the semester, we wanted to keep you up to date on changes that were implemented during the summer.

We encourage you to use all of the technology resources available to you at Adelphi.
See our Technology Services Catalog to explore a hundred different listings.

Opening in early Fall 2014, the new 3D Studio in Swirbul Library is equipped with large- and small-scale printers that uses recyclable filament. The services of the 3D Studio will be available to all Adelphi University students, faculty and staff. Scanning and printing services by our staff are available during operating hours and are by appointment only. 3D modeling and editing can be done during open library hours in the Information Commons on the 2nd floor of Swirbul library.

Wireless and Network Upgrade

All external wifi access points have been upgraded for better and faster coverage. Significant work was also done on the wired network to increase bandwidth/throughput and resiliency.

This lab was designed with the input of our Classroom Technology Advisory group. The Gallagher Lab on the second floor of Swirbul Library was completely renovated to be the first active learning classroom on campus. Faculty and students using the classroom can share multiple forms of content and use the two smart projectors to edit and change content. Collaboration mode allows you to share using personal laptops, tablets and smart phones. Get more info or sign up for a showcase session.

Mobile Printing

Across campus you’ll find select printers that enable users with a valid Adelphi username and password to use our new mobile printing solution. Now members of the Adelphi community can use their laptop or mobile devices to submit print jobs to various printers around campus. Find instructions for mobile printing.

AU2Go

We’ve rebuilt Adelphi’s mobile app from the ground up, based especially on feedback from students. Launched prior to Freshman Orientation, the new app is available for download from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store. It features a completely redesigned home screen, faster user interface and is supported on both smartphones and tablet devices. Faculty, administration and staff who are opted-in to the 11th Street Parking Incentive Program are encouraged to use the new Panther Tracker function of the app to track the shuttle bus in real time, thanks to a collaboration with the Department of Public Safety and Transportation.

Device Charging Towers

The multi-outlet towers for charging your electronics have been added to Swirbul Library–four on the first floor, two on the second floor. Please note: Do not leave your devices unattended at stations. Adelphi is not responsible for lost or stolen property. These towers are in addition to the charging stations that were installed last year across the Garden City campus. See locations.

Multimedia Upgrades

  • Collaboration Studios
Digital collaboration systems were installed in the new group study studios on the first floor of the Swirbul Library. You can connect up to six devices (laptops, tablets and smart phones) at one time and display content through a large LCD display.

  • Biology Lab iPads
A biology lab used for anatomy and physiology classes has been outfitted with 12 iPads for use in interactive instruction.

  • Chemistry Lab
In Chemistry Lab 235 students and faculty can display content using a new multimedia projection system. The lab also has internet connectivity.

  • Geographic Information Systems Lab
A GIS lab has been installed in Science 27. The digital display system enables faculty and students to share and review content on a LCD display. The room also has a new high-end computer and large monitors. A large plotter will be installed to print maps that classes make throughout the semester.

  • Nursing Simulation Lab
The Manhattan center now has a simulation system for nursing students similar to the one on the Garden City campus. The multimedia system accompanies the SimMan system that is provided by nursing and public health.

  • Fine Arts Facility Lobby
Students of the Art and Art History department can use the new display system to compare digital content.

  • Projector and Screen Upgrades
Across campus you’ll find that over a dozen projections screens have been replaced. Additional high efficiency, high definition, lampless systems have been installed to replace older projectors.

  • Additional New Media Systems

    • In Science 149 multimedia lab, content can be projected from laptops stored in the lab or from any personal laptop or handheld device.

    • In Science 106 a projection system has been installed.

    • Post Hall also now has large LCD displays and wireless sharing application.

Website Redesigns

Many parts of the Adelphi website have been relaunched with significant updates to layout and content, including websites for About Adelphi, the Honors College, the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, the Learning Resource Program and the Office of Academic Services and Retention.

We’ve also launched new parts of the eCampus Intranet including Faculty Forms and Resources and the Financial and Administrative Reference Guide with many more in development.

Coming later this fall you will see big changes we’ve been working on to AU’s Student Life websites, including tons of internal resources on the Student Life Intranet on eCampus.

Equipment Loans

Adelphi students, faculty and staff may borrow wireless presenter devices, flip video cameras with tripod, or external desktop speakers for daily checkout and returns. Some equipment is available from the IT Help Desk to faculty and staff only for longer periods of time. For students, additional laptops and iPads are available as part of a daily loan program in partnership with the University Libraries. These are only permitted to be used within the library and are available from the Access Services Desk on the first floor.

How-to Videos

We’ve also got How-to Videos for many of Adelphi’s online services on the Technology at Adelphi University YouTube Channel, with more being added every week.
