Adelphi Professor on Goodwill Board

Dr. James K. Hazy, associate professor of management and entrepreneurship at Adelphi University, has been named treasurer of the Goodwill Industries International board of directors and will serve a one-year term. Dr. Hazy had previously served on the board contributing to the audit, finance, international and strategic issues and planning committees.

Dr. Hazy is the president and founder of Leadership Science, LLC, and is a founding director of the New York based Institute for Research in Complexity and Society. He is a recognized expert in organizational leadership, international finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and venture capital. He has more than 28 years of senior executive experience leading business development, innovation and strategic planning.

“As a strategist and financial engineer, Dr. Hazy brings a wealth of knowledge on business strategies and objectives, and financial planning and analysis to the Goodwill Industries International board of directors,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “His outstanding management abilities and accomplishments as well as his passion for the Goodwill mission and his counsel will be invaluable to Goodwill in the year ahead.”

Dr. Hazy’s previous experience includes serving as the vice president of financial planning and analysis for AT&T, where he was responsible for budgeting and planning and was integral in increasing benchmark analysis and operations improvement programs in eight global divisions with revenue totaling $50 billion. As a founding venture capitalist at AT&T Ventures, he developed and financed businesses spun-out from Bell Laboratories. He also led business development projects for AT&T Computer Systems and was a key player in the integration of NCR after its acquisition by AT&T. Dr. Hazy’s past experience also includes directing all phases of merger and acquisition transactions involving Fortune 500 companies such as Lucent and Philips Electronics.

Dr. Hazy regularly delivers lectures nationally and internationally on leadership, management, and entrepreneurship issues. He is also the author of many articles and books, including the Complexity and the Nexus of Leadership; Complexity Science and Social Entrepreneurship and Complex System Leadership Theory.

Dr. Hazy earned his Doctorate from George Washington University, his M.B.A. with distinction from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.S. from Haverford College.
