In 2017, the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the Center for First-Generation Student Success launched the First-Generation College Celebration, a day for institutions to celebrate students, faculty and staff who are the first members of their family to attend college.

This year, this day falls on November 8. Since first-generation students make up a big part of the Adelphi campus community, we’ll be celebrating current and former first-gen students with events throughout the week of November 9. We’ll also be sharing their stories on social media using #CelebrateFirstGen.

We invite our first-gen students, alumni, faculty and staff to tell us their stories by emailing us at firstgen@adelphi.edu. We invite everyone in the community to join the Center for Career and Professional Development; the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; the Center for Student Involvement (CSI); the Office of Alumni Relations; and the Office of University Admissions for these virtual events.
