Bernadine Waller, M.A. '10, of the Center for Career Development on how to make your résumé stand out from the pack.
Which is more important: making money or loving what you do?
LOVE what you do. When you’re passionate, success is inevitable and the money will follow.
What is the most important business trend of the decade?
Internships. It’s your leg up on the competition and your foot in the door of a prospective company.
What makes a résumé stand out?
Experience. Maximize your opportunities even while in school. Begin with the end in mind. Plan your work and work your plan.
What turns you off from a résumé?
Typos are a complete turnoff. And inaccurate information is not too far behind. I’ve tossed résumés in the trash over a typo and inaccurate information. Take the extra time to proofread. If that’s not your strength, find someone. It can mean the difference between snagging your dream job and sitting on the sidelines waiting for your next opportunity.
