Noteworthy happenings from the Department of Communications.

Our own resident filmmaker and teacher par excellence, Professor Joan Stein, has had her screenplay chosen for the prestigious Hamptons International Film Festival Screenwriter’s Lab. The national event, April 12-14, is highly competitive, bringing in select film writers from across the country to work with established screenwriters and producers with the prospect of taking scripts into production. Prof. Stein is best known for her Academy Award nominated film, One Day Crossing.

The department is proud to announce the release of Prof. Peter Costello’s new book scheduled for May 13. Attachment–Based Psychotherapy: Helping Patients Develop Adaptive Capacities, will be published by the American Psychological Association Press. Prof. Costello is currently working on a second book focused on interpersonal relations.

In other news, Prof. Peggy Cassidy has been awarded a university faculty development grant to continue her research into the historical connection between media and childhood…

Prof. Mark Grabowski presents his work at a conference in Prague this summer addressing ethical concerns in cyberspace…Prof. Tom Campbell will be co-teaching an independent documentary production class in Cameroon, West Africa this summer…Kim Pratt, Jessi Shaheen, CathyBoyd, Terry Woods, and Ann Terry’s creative art work brought in funds for Creative Cups, which goes toward Adelphi’s breast cancer support line…Kim Pratt and Ann Terry continue with plans for the Media Lab major upgrade scheduled for May.

We welcome the newest member into our department — Isabel Sage. Yes, Prof. Anna Akerman and hubby Daniel Berman’s new baby daughter! Prof. Akerman will return from leave in September with added insight, we expect, into her class, Media and Children.
