College of Arts and Sciences Dean Sam L Grogg was a producer on the Oscar-winning film, A Trip to Bountiful.

Dean Sam L GroggCicely Tyson just won the 2013 Tony Award as Best Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Carrie Watts in Horton Foote’s The Trip to Bountiful. In this same role, actress Geraldine Page won a best actress Academy Award for the 1985 feature film version of the television play. Adelphi University’s Sam L Grogg,  Dean of the College of Arts and Science, was a producer on that Oscar-winning film.

 “I was very happy to lead the team that financed and produced the movie version of The Trip to Bountiful with Geraldine Page, who won the Academy Award for best actress in the same vein as Cicely Tyson winning the Tony this Season” Dean Grogg said. “There is no doubt that Mrs. Watts is one of the great leading roles of our times.”

This past March marked the sixtieth anniversary of The Trip to Bountiful which premiered in 1953 on NBC television.
