Dear Adelphi Community,
As reported earlier, a shooting occurred at Stop & Shop on Cherry Valley Avenue, located 1/4 mile from Adelphi’s Garden City campus. Out of an abundance of caution, Adelphi University immediately engaged shelter in place protocols to protect our community.
The police have notified Adelphi that the suspect has been apprehended. Campus conditions are reported as normal. Garden City in-person classes will resume tomorrow, April 21, 2021. All virtual classes and events will continue to operate as planned.
The University Center, UC Dining Hall, Performing Arts Center, and Campus Recreation Center will remain open and accessible for Adelphi community members this evening. All academic buildings will be open for regularly scheduled evening hours of operation. Swirbul Library will be closed for the remainder of today.
I recognize that situations such as this can provoke feelings of anxiety and worry. Please know that our counseling resources remain accessible to students, faculty, and staff.
