Prestigious Awards and Fellowships

The AIF Benyan Impact Fellowship offers a 10-month volunteer service program matching fellows with development organizations. Fellows work on sustainable development projects in public health, education and livelihoods. Fellows receive travel to India, insurance, and a monthly living stipends covering rent, meals and incidentals.

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. or Indian citizen
• Between the ages of 21-34
• Have a BA/BS in hand by September

Boren Scholars should have a desire to work in the federal government.

Scholarship: Fund study abroad by U.S. undergraduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Maximum awards are determined by duration abroad:

• Up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (preferred)
• Up to $12,500 for 12-24 weeks
• Up to $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)

Fellowship: Fund research and language study proposals by U.S. graduate students in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Maximum awards are determined by duration abroad:

The Freeman-Asia program offers scholarships ranging from $3,000 to $7,000 to support U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.

• Have demonstrated financial need
• Minimum GPA of 2.8
• Must want to study abroad but have no experience in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam

Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences.

The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are either 3 or 4-week programs for U.S. undergraduate students. 

The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships places qualified candidates into classrooms abroad in order to provide assistance to the local English teachers. 

The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship enables undergraduates with financial need to study or intern abroad by awarding $5,000 scholarships.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship is a living memorial to support future generations who answer the call to public service leadership.

• Those seeking an educational experience that underscores how historical and cultural dynamics shape society in the local context of the Fellowship program

The Luce Scholars Program  is a nationally competitive fellowship program. It was launched by the Henry Luce Foundation in 1974 to enhance the understanding of Asia among potential leaders in American society. The program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placement in Asia for 13 months.  Luce Scholars come from a wide variety of backgrounds and majors.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is dedicated to advancing the education of exceptionally promising students who have financial needs.

Michell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one academic year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria scholarship, leadership, and a sustained commitment to community and public service. The Mitchell Scholarship Program provides tuition, accommodation, and a stipend for living expenses and travel.

Administered by the Obama Foundation and funded by a $100 million contribution from Brian Chesky of Airbnb, the Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholarship for Public Service helps students eligible for need-based financial aid to pursue careers in public service (broadly defined) by providing access to travel and education. Recipients receive financial aid up to $50,000, a $10,000 summer voyage, a 10-year travel stipend and a networking summit.

• GPA of at least 3.0
• completing sophomore year during application process
• demonstrated financial need via 1040 tax forms
• US citizen, permanent resident, or DACA status
• commitment to public service, including gov’t, non-profits, teachers, community organizers, social workers, socially-oriented entrepreneurs, artists, journalists, etc.

The FAO Schwarz Fellowship is a paid two-year experience at a non-profit aimed at social impact. Fellows receive a $30,000 stipend each year, plus a bonus at the end of the program.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be eligible to work in the U.S.
• Be a college senior at the time of application
• Show academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to social justice

NYC Urban Fellows participate in a 9-month program that provides a $31,500 stipend and health insurance. Fellows are posted to Mayoral offices and City agencies and participate in a seminar series that addresses urban issues in public policy.

• Will have BA/BS in hand before start of fellowship
• Can commit to working full-time at the fellowship

Payne offers fellowships of up to $48,000 a year for a 2-year Master’s program. In addition to your master’s program, you will complete 2 summer internships with the State Department: one in the US and one overseas. Upon successful completion of your Master’s degree, Payne Fellows have the opportunity to work for 5 years as Foreign Service Officers with the US Agency for International Development.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Demonstrated financial need
• At least a 3.2 GPA
• Will pursue a Master’s degree in international affairs, public policy/admin, economics, history, foreign languages, business administration, communications, urban planning, environmental science, or political science

Pickering offers fellowships of up to $37,500 a year for a 2-year Master’s program. In addition to your master’s program, you will complete 2 summer internships with the State Department: one in the U.S. and one overseas. Upon successful completion of your Master’s degree, Pickering Fellows have the opportunity to work for 5 years as Foreign Service Officers with the U.S. Department of State.

• U.S. Citizen
• Demonstrated financial need
• At least a 3.2 GPA
• Can help to represent ethnic, gender, or class diversity
• Will pursue a Master’s degree in international relations, public policy, economics, history, foreign languages, business, communications or political science

The PPIA Junior Summer Institute (JSI) Fellowship Program is a rigorous fully-funded program for juniors. The program aims to address the lack of diversity in professional public service, including government, nonprofits, public policy institutions, and international organizations. The JSI Fellowship prepares students to obtain a Master’s in public policy, public administration, international affairs, etc.

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. Citizen, legal resident, DACA student
• Demonstrated financial need
• Demonstrated involvement in working to improve underrepresented communities, including African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Hispanics, Latinx, Native Americans and Pacific Islanders
• Will pursue a Master’s degree in public policy and/or international affairs at one of the PPIA Consortium graduate schools

Rangel offers fellowships of up to $37,500 a year for a 2-year Master’s program. In addition to your master’s program, you will complete 2 summer internships with the State Department: one in the U.S. and one overseas. Upon successful completion of your Master’s degree, Rangel Fellows have the opportunity to work for 5 years as Foreign Service Officers with the US Department of State.

• Has challenging coursework in mathematics/ quantitative skills, business, economics, English, languages, or political science
• Members of minority groups, women and those with financial need are encouraged to apply

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations or to the environment. In 2021, the Udall Foundation anticipates awarding 55 scholarships of up to $7,000 each.

GEM Engineering / Science Fellows receive a $16,000 stipend, a paid summer internship, and full tuition and fees for a PhD at a GEM-affiliated University.

The Goldwater Foundation offers prestigious scholarships to college sophomores and juniors to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.

• Minimum GPA of 3.3
• Have “Exceptional Financial Need” as certified by your undergraduate institution’s financial aid office
• For each scholarship year, you are committed to two NIH service obligations

The National Institutes of Health Postbac IRTA/CRTA offers recent college graduates planning to apply to nursing/dental/vet/medical/pharmacy school $30,000+ stipends to work for 1-2 years as a full-time researcher at the NIH.

• Graduating senior or recent grad
• Want to focus on biomedical issues and have taken courses in biology and chemistry

The Ernest F. Hollings Foundation offers sophomores scholarships of up to $9,500 for 2 more years of undergraduate study as well as a 10-week paid summer internship at a NOAA facility.

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
• At least a 3.0 GPA
• Sophomore
• Majoring in environmental, or biological science, mathematics, physics or teacher education supporting NOAA programs

IDA offers a 2-year paid fellowship to work on policymaking in STEM education, information technology, energy and the environment, space science, infotech, national security and life sciences. Fellows work collaboratively but also have the opportunity to work on independent research project (ideally leading to publication).

• Have earned a BS/BA between May 2019- July 2021
• Strong written & oral communication skills
• Interest in science and technology policy

Tylenol offers scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 will be awarded to students admitted to a post-baccalaureate clinical program in medicine, nursing or pharmacy.

• Provide proof of enrollment to a graduate program in medicine, nursing, or pharmacy
• Be seeking a degree in order to actively treat patients

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships of up to $7,000 to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to the environment or Native American nations.

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. Citizen or permanent resident
• Sophomore or junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree
• Be working towards positive solutions to environmental challenges or to issues impacting India
• Has done community service and public service which demonstrates a commitment to one of these areas

Applications are due by March of sophomore or junior year, but you must meet with a campus representative well before then.

The James Madison Foundation offers fellowships of up to $24,000 for an MA, MAT or MEd program. These fellowships are for social studies teachers who will be teaching the US Constitution as part of their American history, civics, and/or American government courses for grades 7-12.

• Plan to teach social studies or US history or civic to grades 7-12
• Have earned a BA by August 31 of the year of your application

Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship offers $32,000 toward completion of a 1-year MEd in STEM at the University of Pennsylvania, Duquesne or West Chester Universities. Upon completion of the degree, teachers will teach in a middle- or high school in Philadelphia or the great city of Pittsburgh.

Eligibility Criteria:

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Has at least a 3.0 GPA
• Has majored in STEM field or has at least 30 STEM credits
• Intends to pursue a teaching career in natural science, math, or engineering

The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the United States.

DAAD offers a paid summer internship to work in scientific laboratories with doctoral students and researchers in Germany. Knowledge of German is not necessary.

Ideal for rising seniors, as well as graduate students pursuing a master’s degree, JD, or PhD, the FBI Summer Honors Internship is a paid summer experience with the FBI. Interns from a wide variety of majors (including management, accounting, IT, criminal justice, and environmental studies, among others) works alongside FBI staff in Washington, DC, or at local field offices throughout the nation.
