Student Eligibility, Registration & Payment

High school juniors and seniors with strong academic records are eligible to participate in the College Credit Advantage Program. In consultation with Adelphi University, the high school makes recommendations about each individual student’s eligibility and participation. A list of participating high schools is available here

Enrollment is completed online. Students who attend participating high schools and are enrolled in Adelphi-approved courses have the option to earn college credit for the work they are already completing. Students must register online by the indicated deadlines defined by the University.

No registrations will be accepted after the deadline. Both University and state guidelines prevent retroactive registrations (registering for a class taken in a past semester) and students who miss posted deadlines will not be eligible for credits that semester.

We ask that you advise your students when registration is taking place. Registration for year long classes takes place in the fall (same dates as fall only classes). Please consult the Program Schedule chart to review important registration deadlines.

We do not accept registrations after the posted final late registration deadline. If a student has any concerns, please have the student contact the Office of College Credit Advantage Program at CCAP@adelphi.edu.

Payment is $390* per course and is made online when a student registers with Visa, Master Card or electronic check.

*Students who register during Late Registration will be billed a $35 late fee.

The University requires payment for courses at the time of registration. Please Note All Payments Are Non-Refundable.

If a student has any doubts about their readiness for the work included in your Adelphi University course, the student should consult with the high school teacher prior to registering for a class. Dropping a course at Adelphi is a formal process and a student must receive approval from the Director of the College Credit Advantage Program.

In order to drop a course, the following must be submitted:

  •   Enrollment/attendance records from the course instructor.
  •   A written statement from the student requesting to be dropped from a course

Please note, students may only drop a course if:

  1. If the student is no longer enrolled in the high school course and will not receive a grade for the course at the end of the year. Proof is required from the student’s high school teacher/guidance counselor.
  2. If the student inadvertently registered for an incorrect course or needs to be switched from one course to another.
  3. Other extenuating circumstances approved at the Director’s discretion.

Dropping a course with a high school teacher or guidance counselor does not remove the student from Adelphi University’s class list.

Since this program is already discounted more than 85% from on-campus rates, no other financial aid is available through Adelphi University for College Credit Advantage Program students.

Course Information

The number of courses a student can take each semester depends partly on how many courses your high school offers and on their own academic capabilities. Because the work is demanding, we suggest students participate in a maximum of two classes for Adelphi credit per semester.

High school faculty members who hold a Master’s Degree in the subject area they teach (or a Master’s Degree in Education and concentration in subject are) and who have 3 years of teaching experience qualify to teach College Credit Advantage Program courses. After being nominated by school officials and approved by the respective Adelphi departments, instructors work closely with our faculty to prepare course curricula.

College Credit & Transfer Policies

The difference between the College Credit Advantage Program and the AP classes is that the award of college credit in the College Credit Advantage Program does not depend on a score achieved on a single examination, as is the case in the AP Program. Adelphi University credit is awarded based on the grade you earn for the work students accomplish during the semester.

Although we cannot guarantee transfer credit in advance, most colleges accept Adelphi credits. According to surveys, more than 90 percent of the students who apply for college credit receive it at a variety of post-secondary institutions across the country. Please keep in mind, credit transfer practices vary by school. Students may receive elective credits, advanced standing placement, requirement waivers, or some combination of the above. We highly recommend that students contact colleges that they are interested in attending and ask about transfer credit policies.

Students must order a copy of their transcript through the Office of the University Registrar (not the College Credit Advantage Program Office). The quickest and most convenient way to request your Adelphi University transcript is to order it online through our transcript ordering system. Students can request an electronic version of their official transcript to be sent to another institution ($10 fee) or an unofficial copy sent directly home.

Academic Honesty & Grading Policies

“The University is an academic community devoted to the pursuit of knowledge. Fundamental to this pursuit is academic integrity. In joining the Adelphi community I accept the University’s Statement of Academic Integrity and pledge to uphold the principles of honesty and civility embodied in it. I will conduct myself in accordance with ideals of truth and honesty and I will forthrightly oppose actions which would violate these ideals.”

At the end of each semester, instructors will go into the Adelphi University Portal and fill in the grades in the grade rosters which lists all students in a course who have registered for Adelphi credit. Grades must be posted in the portal before the deadline, emailed grades will not be accepted.

Most institutions do not use course grades for transfer credit in their determination of a student’s GPA at that school. However, the grade a student earns in a course is part of the permanent record at Adelphi University and will count toward the student’s GPA should the student attend Adelphi University. If a student is concerned about how grades earned in Adelphi University courses will affect the GPA, the student should contact the registrar at the university the student plans to attend for more information.
