Secure Together: The Science of Attachment in Couples Therapy
This introductory class explores the foundational principles of attachment theory and its application to understanding adult relational styles.
Drawing on the work of John Bowlby, Mary Ainsworth, and other contemporary researchers, the course examines how early attachment experiences shape internal working models that influence emotional bonds, intimacy, and conflict patterns in adulthood.
Students will learn to identify the four primary adult attachment styles — Secure, Anxious-Preoccupied, Dismissive-Avoidant, and Fearful-Avoidant — and analyze how these patterns manifest in relationships and clinical settings. Through lectures, case vignettes, group discussions, and guided readings, participants will deepen their ability to recognize attachment-related behaviors and consider their implications for therapeutic practice.
This workshop is part of the Program in Couple Therapy Series.
