As we find ourselves mired in multiple layers of uncertainty and alarm, including the unfolding climate and ecological crisis, ongoing sociopolitical harm and emergent political upheaval, how do we as couple therapists work with these realities as they emerge in the clinical landscape?

How do we navigate our own complicated countertransference reactions since we are embedded in the same fires of the “polycrisis” as the couples we are helping? And how do we apply what we already know as well as broaden our conceptualizations to find creative ways to work with emergent dysregulation and polarization in couple relationships?

In this two-hour workshop, Dr. Wendy Greenspun will apply a multiple-systems framework to consider these complexities from various viewpoints, drawing on psychodynamic and systemic understandings to foster more productive communication, repair ruptures and embrace multiple viewpoints in our couples work. The workshop will include case examples, discussion and breakout rooms to help participants grapple experientially with these complicated issues.

This workshop is part of the Program in Couple Therapy Series.
