Student Accommodation Appeals Process
The Student Access Office (“SAO”) is the sole entity at Adelphi authorized to receive, review and approve requests for students seeking reasonable accommodations based on disability; requests for reasonable accommodations are reviewed in accordance with applicable federal law. If one or more specific requests are not approved, the student may formally appeal.
How to Submit an Appeal
To begin the appeals process, students must complete the Student Accommodation Request Appeals Form within 10 business days of receiving the Student Access Office’s response letter.
What to Expect During the Appeals Process
- The Title IX Coordinator/Director of Equity and Compliance will conduct a review, which will involve information-gathering from the student and the Student Access Office. All interested persons and their representatives, if any, have an opportunity to submit evidence relevant to the appeal.
- Records and documentation relevant to the appeal will be maintained by the Title IX Coordinator/Director of Equity and Compliance.
- Any reasonable accommodations already approved by the Student Access Office will not be interrupted by a pending appeal.
- This appeals process will not be impacted by a student’s pursuit of other remedies, such as the filing of a complaint with an entity/agency outside of Adelphi University. The appeals process is not a prerequisite to the pursuit of other such remedies.
