All new first-year and transfer students at Adelphi are required to meet with an adviser to plan your first semester and register for classes.

Complete the steps below before your meeting so your adviser can recommend the right courses and make the most of your appointment.

Gather Your Test Scores and College Credits

Have a list of any exams you’ve taken or college credits you’ve earned ready for your adviser. This includes credits earned while you were in high school. Supply information about:

  • Advanced Placement (AP) exams
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level exams
  • Cambridge A or AS Level examinations
  • Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
  • College courses completed during high school (dual enrollment, Early College, etc.)

If you have unofficial transcripts or score reports available, bring them with you or send them to your adviser before your appointment.

Complete Your Language Placement (If Needed)

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in the College of Arts and Sciences—or anyone interested in studying a language—should complete the language placement exam before meeting with an adviser.

Planning to Take Calculus I?

Some majors require Calculus I. If you’d like to enroll directly in Calculus I instead of Precalculus, you’ll need to qualify through one of the following:

  • AP Calculus AB score of 2 or 3
  • SAT Math score above 640
  • ACT Math score of 26 or higher
  • Passing the Mathematics Department placement exam

For placement test information, email mathcs@adelphi.edu.

Explore First-Year Seminars

Before your appointment, browse Adelphi’s PATH First-Year Seminar options and think about which topics interest you most. Your adviser will help you choose a seminar that fits your interests and schedule.

These small, discussion-based courses help you:

  • Explore engaging, real-world topics
  • Connect with classmates and faculty
  • Build skills for college success
  • Begin your Adelphi experience with a supportive learning community
