Dear Faculty, Staff and Adelphi Hudson Valley Students,
I am writing to share an important update regarding the future of our Hudson Valley Center, where we have offered graduate-level social work education since 1973. As I mentioned during the full faculty meeting last week, the Adelphi University Board of Trustees approved the closure of our Hudson Valley Center, located at the MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, New York, at its September 18, 2026, meeting. Following the Spring 2027 semester, our Master of Social Work (MSW) students at the Hudson Valley Center will transition to one of our other MSW program offerings, including at the Manhattan Center in New York City or online, and our Doctor of Social Welfare (DSW) students will transition to Adelphi’s Manhattan Center.
In making this decision, the board and administration assessed how to best deliver our programs sustainably while providing the highest-quality resources. Consolidating our footprint will allow us to strategically centralize resources and student support services while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of our programs.
Academic Continuity for the Current Year and the Future
Our immediate priority is ensuring a successful, uninterrupted academic year for our current students. Our faculty and staff remain committed to our Hudson Valley Center students’ education and training, and all classes, practicums and schedules for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 will continue as planned.
We have also developed pathways to ensure that no student’s progress toward their degree is hindered. To that end, School of Social Work Dean Joanne Corbin, PhD, and her staff have met with impacted students and faculty. Students will be able to transition their enrollment to our fully online program, to Adelphi’s new Manhattan Center on Fifth Avenue or the Garden City campus, based on what works best for their life and schedule. These changes will not result in any change in cost for the student.
