This course shows students the potential and limitations of using artificial intelligence (AI) in society. Students explore the history of artificial intelligence and discuss ethical considerations involving the creation and use of AI. Students learn about expert systems, generative AI, machine learning, and basic data analytics.

In this course you will:
- Articulate a definition of AI and meaningfully engage in discussion about appropriate use of AI.
- Compare different AI models and apply metrics of success.
- Make ethical decisions concerning the use of AI in data privacy, catastrophic AI risk, data ownership, and data visualization.
- Discuss the history and evolution of AI.
- Engineer basic AI prompts to effectively use generative AI.
- Assess and evaluate the reliability of different sources.
- Differentiate between the scientific paradigm, the data science paradigm, and pseudoscience.
Meet Your Professor
Michael Autorino is a software engineer who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Adelphi University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Hofstra University. Michael has previously worked on projects in Software and Game Development. Their current interests are in Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and Information Technology. Michael is currently interested in the applications of Artificial Intelligence and is working on making the aspects of Artificial Intelligence more accessible to large audiences.
