You may elect to waive the school insurance plan if you have comparable coverage that is active.

You may elect to waive the school insurance if you have comparable coverage that is active. All students must provide proof of their coverage when requesting a waiver. You will need your Adelphi student username and password to access the waiver form starting on July 2, 2026.

Waiver Deadlines

Students with comparable coverage can request a waiver, but must submit proof of coverage by the following deadlines:

  • Fall 2026: October 1, 2026
  • Spring 2027: March 1, 2027

No late waivers will be accepted.

If you waive the plan in the fall and continue in the spring, you do not need to submit a new waiver.

If you enroll in the spring for the first time, you must waive separately by the March 1 deadline.

Minimum Waiver Requirements for Residential and International Students

To waive the Adelphi plan, your health insurance must meet all ACA guidelines, including:

  • Unlimited plan maximum
  • Minimum coverage: 80% in-network / 60% out-of-network
  • Medical Evacuation: $50,000 (International Students only)
  • Repatriation of Remains: $25,000 (International Students only)
  • Active coverage for the entire term (International Students only: Fall: August 10 – December 31; Spring: January 1 – August 9)

If your policy does not meet these requirements, your waiver will be denied.

What You’ll Need to Waive

Before you start the waiver process, gather the following information:

  1. Your current insurance card (front and back) — the card must have the insurance ID number on it.
  2. Your Adelphi student ID number (Not sure of your ID? You can look up your Adelphi ID.)
  3. An email address that you will monitor for communications from the insurance company about your waiver status.
  4. International students only: A copy of your actual policy documents to upload to the waiver site.

Be sure to double-check all information—especially your policy number and phone number—before submitting. Accurate information is essential for your waiver to be approved.

After Submitting a Waiver

  • Students must retain a copy of their waiver submission confirmation. It is the student’s responsibility to provide proof of waiver submission if there’s an issue. Once your waiver is approved, the insurance fee will be removed from your account within one to two weeks.
  • Students must monitor the email address they use to process the waiver for communications from the insurance company.

Adelphi Health Services bills insurance for certain medical services, just as many doctors' offices and urgent care centers do. Depending on your insurance coverage, you may be responsible for applicable copays or other out-of-pocket costs. Mental health counseling and many wellness resources are available without direct insurance billing. If you have questions about insurance coverage, billing or potential out-of-pocket costs, contact Health Services before your visit.

Certain medical services may be billed through your health insurance plan. Depending on your coverage, out-of-pocket costs may apply.

Physical examinations, immunizations and other clinical medical services may be billed through health insurance. Coverage and patient responsibility vary by plan.
