Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation with the prestigious Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, Adelphi has a historic commitment to civic engagement and service learning.

Since our founding in 1896, our deeply rooted dedication to community service has helped Adelphi advance the goals of our communities.

Our mission to serve our community reinforces two critical goals: It fosters a strong sense of community engagement within our students, and it brings exceptional benefits to community organizations throughout Long Island and New York state.

Adelphi University is actively involved with a variety of community partners such as:

  • Local schools and educational organizations, providing educational opportunities for students from underserved communities
  • Local arts and cultural organizations
  • Museums
  • Art galleries
  • Theaters, both local and Broadway-based

Join us and be a part of our community partners of change makers.

Jaggar Community Fellows Program

Our flagship program, the Jaggar Community Fellows Program, is one of the many community partnership initiatives we offer. This program offers Adelphi University students competitive, paid summer internships in the nonprofit sector.  It connects students with community organizations and provides opportunities to positively impact the community while gaining valuable skills and insights.

Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program

The Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program provides callers with the critical information and caring support they need as they face the challenge of breast cancer. The hotline offers vital resources in both English and Spanish, supporting and empowering diverse populations around New York state.

Derner Hempstead Child Clinic

The Center for Psychological Services of the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology provides high-quality services at the Derner Hempstead Child Clinic, which is a specialty clinic serving only children, adolescents and their families.

Center for Student and Community Engagement

The Center for Student and Community Engagement is the hub for volunteer and service programs at the University, working with numerous community organizations to plan meaningful opportunities for Adelphi students.

Hispanic Community Partnership Program

The Hispanic Community Partnership Program brings Hispanic high school students to Adelphi University for a special summer session each year, exposing them to college life. Students come away with a better understanding of the college journey ahead, and they learn how to plan for and pay for college through financial literacy coaching sessions.

Supporting Our Local Community with the Panther Discount Program

The Panther Partnership between Adelphi and local establishments provides discounts to students and faculty year-round. Please consider patronizing these locations and supporting our local economy.

Partnerships to Support Our Local Economy and Nonprofits

Adelphi maintains strong partnerships with both the Hauppauge Industrial Association (HIA) and the Long Island Association (LIA), the region’s leading nonprofit and nonpartisan business organizations. Mary Anne Hyland, PhD, dean of the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, has served as a panelist at the Long Island Economic Summit, and President Christine M. Riordan serves on the LIA board, bringing her management expertise to the nonprofit sector.

Relay for Life

Adelphi participates annually in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event. Wearing signature purple gear, and raising funds both individually and as teams, participants in this community program walk through the day and night to support cancer research.
