This engaging event brings together university business students and community members for an evening of financial education and networking. Connect with representatives from various financial institutions during our opening networking session, then hear from guest speakers Jocrys Barranco on avoiding common financial pitfalls and Tanika Steele on building emergency savings. The evening concludes with an interactive fireside chat where you can ask questions and gain practical insights from our speakers and financial providers. Whether you’re just starting your financial journey or looking to strengthen your money management skills, this event offers valuable knowledge and resources to help you achieve your financial goals.

About the Speakers
Tanika Steele

Tanika Steele is a business owner in the Eastern Suffolk area. She has over 30 years of experience working in the not-for-profit sector. She is an Author, consultant and public speaker. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration (Not-for-Profit Management and leadership), and has worked with at-risk families for the past 20 Years.
For the past 10 years, she has managed her own consulting firm providing professional development, training and teambuilding for Head start programs, pre schools and public schools all over the country as well as literacy workshops for children, adolescents, and adults in public libraries throughout Suffolk, Nassau and Queens New York. In 2011 Tanika was featured in O Magazine for her work in her community.
Jocrys Barranco

Jocrys Barranco is a daughter of Dominican immigrants, first generation American, wife, mother and accomplished professional with a diverse background spanning the finance, insurance, banking, and commercial real estate sectors. As the founder of Exodus Financial, Jocrys is deeply committed to providing financial education to underserved communities in America and safeguarding their family legacies through the Financial & Insurance Industry.
With over two decades of experience, Jocrys possesses an unwavering passion for helping individuals achieve financial success. She is dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs in building part-time or full-time businesses, enabling them to work towards attaining financial freedom.
Jocrys firmly believes that wealth creation is within reach for everyone, regardless of their budget. Through dispelling myths and offering accurate information, she empowers individuals to take decisive action towards their financial goals.
Jocrys envisions Exodus Financial as a platform that equips and supports individuals from diverse backgrounds, including Latinos, minorities, single moms, and young leaders, with the necessary skills and tools to make informed financial decisions while pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. As a Certified Financial Education Instructor (R) with extensive knowledge in financial management, Jocrys also serves as Treasurer at Real Estate Boss Empire, a charitable organization that provides vital support to communities and families in need. In addition to her professional endeavors, Jocrys is the founder of the Bilingual Wealth Movement, a group dedicated to improving the lives of immigrants and first generation Americans that have the right to the resources of financial accessibility and community development in underserved areas utilizing her expertise to empower and support local businesses. She has also volunteered as a Tax Agent, assisting low-income families and individuals in filing their taxes and accessing financial resources.
Jocrys’ dedication to giving back, coupled with her finance skills, exemplifies her ability to make a positive impact on those around her.
