This certificate course will prepare you to provide high-quality, evidence-based palliative care to individuals across the adult lifespan and in all settings, as part of an interdisciplinary team. These workshops are especially valuable to registered nurses (RNs), advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) and others seeking the knowledge and skills to provide medical care and emotional support that manages symptoms, relieves pain and discomfort and improves quality of life for patients with life-threatening or terminal illnesses.

After the six-course, 36-hour online program, led by experts in this field, you will be awarded a digital certificate that you can add to your résumé or social media. After each workshop is completed, you will be awarded a digital badge. Prerequisite: Attendees must be registered nurses.

As “information overload” and the amount of data we collect continue to increase, the field of machine learning is becoming increasingly important. Machine learning powers many of today’s popular services, like Google, social media, and Netflix. In these two 4-hour workshops, you will learn the basics of machine learning and how this new field gives you the tools and skills you need to locate patterns within massive amounts of data. You’ll learn basic applications in machine learning, discuss its strengths and limitations, and learn to recognize different types of machine learning. This course includes principal component analysis, clustering analysis, linear regressions and logistics regression. In two 4-hour workshops, you’ll continue to build your skills in advanced applications of machine learning. This includes timely applications such as Trees, Forest, KNN and Support Vector Machines. For any individual within the educational community today, understanding diversity and cultural competence is a critical skill. In this workshop, you’ll receive a general overview and rationale for the importance of promoting diversity and cultural competence in schools. You’ll address issues related specifically to race, ethnicity, gender, class and ability—and how these can be intersectional within individuals or groups.  You’ll learn the skills you need to become a culturally competent leader, educator or advocate.

Gender Bias and Title IX

Explore gender stereotypes and bias, both conscious and unconscious, with particular emphasis on Title IX issues (the law that protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities). Learn the skills you need to create a SafeZone or take other actions, to help all people feel safe, supported and welcomed, particularly members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. You will explore microaggressive and discriminatory behavior; learn to use inclusive language, gain a deeper understanding of the complexity of sexual identity; and learn about different ways that you, as an individual or part of a group, can become an effective ally and SafeZone proponent.

Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Access Issues

Using the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as its foundation, you will learn disability etiquette, legal responsibility and accountability. You’ll gain a new awareness of equity and access issues and challenges. Learn the skills you need to become an advocate for individuals with physical, neurological or cognitive disabilities, and explore ways you can promote equity for all within the education system.

Capstone Experience
In this final workshop, you will summarize the new skills and key concepts you have learned, share your learning from the individual workshops and reflect on your personal and professional experiences as a result of the workshops. Importantly, you will have an opportunity to share how you plan to apply the program skills and knowledge you learned with action plans to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace. You will reinforce your learning goals and review the overall aims of the Adelphi University Diversity Certificate Partnership Program to create both personal transformation and real change within your school district.

To succeed in today’s design world, you must have digital skills. In this workshop, you’ll learn layout, use of imagery, typography and color for projects like email blasts, digital banner ads, simple animated gifs and social media posts. Students will learn how to create engaging graphics using the principles of web-based graphic design, using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. (Please note: this is not a coding class.)
