Dr. Eisenstein is Commissioner of Health for the Nassau County Department of Health.

Lawrence Eisenstein, M.D., FACP is Commissioner of Health for the Nassau County Department of Health, Uniondale, New York. Dr. Eisenstein is dual Board Certified in Internal Medicine, and Infectious Diseases through the American Board of Internal Medicine. Prior to becoming Commissioner, Dr. Eisenstein joined the Nassau County Department of Health as Deputy Commissioner in 2009.

Dr. Eisenstein completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York, in 2004. He then served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital for the 2004-2005 academic year. This was followed by Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Winthrop. Dr. Eisenstein began studying medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and completed his schooling at New York Medical College. Prior, he received a B.A. from Binghamton University.

Dr. Eisenstein is Clinical Assistant Professor of Population Health to the Faculty of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, and adjunct professor at the Hofstra School of Health Professions and Kinesiology. He also is Adjunct Professor at Touro College. He has written many peer reviewed publications, and has presented poster contributions including award winners Dr. Eisenstein has presented many medical and public health Grand Rounds, and frequently gives guest lectures while participating in conferences.

Dr. Eisenstein served as a teaching attending physician at Winthrop-University Hospital from 2007 to early 2009. During this time he maintained an academic affiliation with SUNY-Stony Brook Medical School of Medicine. Prior to joining the Health Department, Dr. Eisenstein worked in a private practice in Infectious Diseases in West Islip New York. He had attending physician privileges at Southside Hospital, Bay Shore, NY, as well as Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, New York. 

Dr. Eisenstein is a member in good standing of the Infectious Disease Society of America, the American Public Health Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
