Adelphi University is pleased to host top Daoist scholar Livia Kohn, professor emerita of Boston University’s Department of Religion, on Monday, September 19, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. in Adelphi’s Swirbul Library Room 101, 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY. The event is sponsored by Asian Studies, the College of Arts & Sciences, Gender Studies, the History Department, and University Libraries. This is free and open to the public.

At the lecture, Ms. Kohn will cover the Daoist ways of healing to improve women’s health and Daoist women in history and contemporary times. Known as a world-renowned expert on Daoism, she is the author of more 30 books and hundreds of articles and reviews. Her most recent works include Zhuangzi: At Ease in Perfect Happiness(Woodstock, Vermont, 2011) and Sitting in Oblivion: The Heart of Daoist Meditation (Three Pines Press, 2010). She is the executive editor of Three Pines Press and the editor of the new Journal of Daoist Studies. Ms. Kohn earned a Ph.D. from Bonn University, Germany.
