Students in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Text Analytics course worked with LS ELECTRIC America, as part of the Live Cases project.

Juan Jaramillo, PhD, associate professor of decision sciences, and the students in his Text Analytics course worked with LS ELECTRIC America, a global provider of electrical solutions, equipment and systems, to improve its customer service by developing an artificial intelligence tool for email treatment and guided selling. This was just one of the nine Live Class projects being implemented in the Fall 2020 semester by Adelphi’s Innovation Center in collaboration with the Department of Decision Sciences and Marketing.

I know that the students learned a lot from working on our “real-world” business problems, but what surprised me the most—is how much we learned from them.

Andrew M. Urda Vice President of Sales Operations for LS ELECTRIC America

The best solutions were developed by the collaboration of two student teams, one from Adelphi University and another from EAFIT University in Colombia. These teams collaborated remotely throughout the semester to design a viable solution for LS ELECTRIC America.

The project sponsor, Andrew M. Urda, vice president of sales operations for LS ELECTRIC America, shared his thoughts on Adelphi’s Live Class program:

“Working with Adelphi’s graduate students was a real joy! The teams tackled our problems and came back to us with several interesting approaches. We gave them good feedback and jointly honed in on the potential solutions that had the most promise. We made amazing progress in a very short time and are well on our way to a final resolution. I know that the students learned a lot from working on our “real-world” business problems, but what surprised me the most—is how much we learned from them.”
