Anne Mungai, Ph.D., the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education’s interim dean, cited several key factors behind the School’s strong rankings at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Small class size is one, she said, because that enables faculty to “take a deep interest in the lives and careers of Ammon School students and maintain lifelong connections with them.”

In addition, experiential learning and high-impact practices offer enriched hands-on learning opportunities that let students try their passions and prepare them for professional experiences and growth, Dr. Mungai said. She mentioned the Health and Sport Sciences and Communication Sciences and Disorders departments’ specialized labs as examples.

Locations in and near New York City are another factor, she said, adding that these attract diverse students. “Tuition-free fellowships and full- and part-time graduate assistantships increase socioeconomic diversity,” she added.

And then there are the hybrid and fully online programs that “give our students the opportunity to work from home or wherever they are, with the hands-on support and guidance of world-class mentors,” Dr. Mungai said.

The rankings:

SOE’s Speech-Language Pathology program ranked No. 120 out of 294 programs nationally on U.S. News & World Report‘s 2019 Best Grad Schools listing.

The M.S. in Sport Management, a wholly online program, is highly ranked by three organizations. It’s No. 20 among the “25 Best Online in Sport Management Degree Programs” by TheBestSchools.org.

That program is also rated among the Best Online Sports Management Degrees by College Choice (No. 10 among Best Online Sports Management Master’s Degrees).

In addition, this M.S. program is on the list of the nation’s Top 50 Online Master’s in Sport Management Programs 2018 by the online business education and career guide Top Management Degrees (No. 41 among “Top 50 Online Master’s Sports Management Programs).”

Adelphi’s Ammon School also is among the top 5 percent of the highest paid graduates by College FactualColleges of Distinction cited Adelphi in education for 2018–2019.
