Hailed by the New Yorker as “funny and touching, ceaselessly clever and scarily talented”

Adelphi University Performing Arts Center (AUPAC)Preferred Nellie McKay Photo crDavid Kogut 2014 is proud to present the acclaimed singer-songwriter Nellie McKay with her music showcasing different genres, from jazz to rap and disco to funk. The concert will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. on the Westermann Stage of the Concert Hall at 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

Ms. McKay frequently performs on NPR’s Mountain Stage and on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Her songs have been featured on numerous TV shows, including Mad Men, Weeds, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS and Boardwalk Empire. She also wrote the original music for the Rob Reiner film Rumor Has It and the Emmy-winning documentary Gasland. Ms. McKay’s most recent recording, “My Weekly Reader”, is a collection of classic pop tunes from the 1960s, which the New York Times calls “a tour de force from a sly, articulate musician who sounds comfortable in any era.” The range of material is wide—from the Beatles’ If I Fell to Frank Zappa’s Hungry Freaks, Daddy.

In addition to recording six full-length albums, Ms. McKay has also won a Theatre World Award for her portrayal of Polly Peachum in the Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera and performed onscreen in the films PS I Love You and Downtown Express. She recently completed an extended run in the award-winning off-Broadway hit Old Hats.
