In addition, The New York Library Association awarded him the Social Issues Resources Series Intellectual Freedom Award.

Despite a demanding schedule, Dr. Fanelli’s heart remains committed to teaching. He continues to teach a course in oceanology each semester.

Dr. Fanelli holds a Ph.D. from Fordham University in aquatic ecology, with a specialization in physical and chemical limnology and marine microbial physiology. Prior to his appointment as Nassau Community College’s fourth president, he served as a professor of biology, chairman of an academic department, associate dean and dean of academic affairs, and deputy to the president of Westchester Community College.

Dr. Robert A. Scott launched Adelphi’s President’s Series on Critical Issues in 2001 to provide students, scholars, and distinguished guests with an intimate forum in which to explore critical local, regional, national, and global topics, such as the environment, health, politics, law, and government regulations.
