Meetings, activities, office use and dining at the University Center won’t be affected by construction until after Commencement in May 2019.

Dear Adelphi community:

I hope you enjoyed a happy and restful Thanksgiving holiday.

As we approach the end of our fall semester and a very productive year, I would like to share with you an important update about our plans for renovating the Ruth S. Harley University Center into a bigger, brighter, modernized heart of our campus.

Together with leadership and the UC Renovation Project Team, we have reconsidered our construction timeline and decided to update the plans in order to keep the UC open and operating normally until after our Class of 2019 Commencement on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

As you’ll recall, our initial project plans were to begin construction in January 2019. This revised timeline will start construction in early spring and will ensure that your meetings, activities, office use and dining at the UC won’t be affected by any construction until after Commencement.

This change in schedule gives our UC Renovation Project Team ample time to make more progress in several important areas that are currently in the works: compiling and considering your valuable input that’s been gathered over the last few weeks; completing the final stages of our building permit process with the Village of Garden City; and receiving bids from potential contractors by mid-December so we can select one that fully aligns with Adelphi’s goals and project budget.

Also, I hope you’ll agree that this change in the timeline will help to minimize the impact that a midyear transition would have on our entire Adelphi campus community. I will share a fully revised timeline with you in the coming weeks to reflect this update.

As always, I’m grateful for your collaboration, input and participation in our plans for the UC renovation. Please continue to share your questions and feedback with me at ucprogress.adelphi.edu.

Good luck to all as you prepare for end-of-semester exams and projects!
